NFL news: Mike Vrabel retires, joins OSU as coach

Linebacker Mike Vrabel has retired from the NFL at age 36.

He played eight seasons with the New England Patriots, four with the Pittsburgh Steelers and two with the Kansas City Chiefs.

Pacman Jones, Hines Ward arrested in separate incidents

Two high-profile NFL players were arrested in separate incidents over the weekend. The first didn’t raise many eyebrows.

Pacman Jones is no stranger to handcuffs; the Bengals cornerback was arrested late Saturday night at a Cincinnati bar for disorderly conduct and resisting arrest.

He reportedly tried to escape police handcuffs while shouting obscenities. It’s Jones’ sixth arrest since he entered the NFL.

The other arrest over the weekend was a bit surprising. Hines Ward? The Pittsburgh Steelers wideout was arrested for a DUI early Saturday.

But was the incident more than meets the eye?

“From our preliminary investigation, we can tell you that we are confident that the facts will show that Hines was NOT impaired by alcohol while driving,” said Ward’s agent Andrew Ree in s statement.

“However, Hines is deeply saddened by this incident and apologizes to his fans and the Steelers organization for this distraction.”

DeSean Jackson apologizes for anti-gay slurs

Philadelphia Eagles wideout DeSean Jackson got into trouble for making two anti-gay slurs last week toward a caller that questioned his toughness on a radio show.

He apologized later, explaining that “I meant no disrespect and a better choice of words was needed.”
